Western Zambia

Overview

This route takes in the Victoria and Ngonye Falls, Liuwa Plains National Park and Kafue National Park. You will begin in Livingstone where you will spend two nights on the banks of the Zambezi and visit Victoria Falls before setting off up the main Sesheke Mongu road to Liuwa Plains National Park, known for its beautiful open plains. You then head across to Kafue National Park and make your way south through this very remote and largely unexplored park. You take the route out of the Ndumdumwenze gate and head back to Livingstone.

Itinerary

Location 1

Waterberry Lodge, Livingstone

Day 1 & 2

Upon arrival in Livingstone you will be met by a representative of Safari Drive and taken to Waterberry Lodge, located on the banks of the Zambezi River where you will spend your first two nights.

Location 2

Kabula Lodge, Zambezi Lodge

Day 3 & 4

Today you leave Livingstone and head up the main Sesheke to Mongu road, stopping for the night at this African fishing lodge.

Lyangu Community Campsite, Liuwa Plains

Day 5 & 6

Leave early today to get the best possible start for Liuwa Plains. It is not that far but deep sand can slow you down. You will be camping for two nights at Lyangu Community Campsite.

Location 4

Katoyana Community Campsite, Liuwa Plains

Day 7 & 8

Today you will pack up camp and spend the day game driving before heading to your next campsite, Katoyana, which is also run by the local community.

Location 5

Mutoya Campsite, Mongu

Day 9

Today you leave Liuwa and stop off at Mongu again before heading into Kafue tomorrow.

Location 6

Muyukuyuku Campsite, Kafue National Park

Day 10 & 11

Head east into Kafue today where you will stop off at Mayukuyuku for two nights. This is a really great and friendly camp with excellent hosting and guides.

Location 7

KaingU Campsite, Kafue National Park

Day 12

This morning you will head to the family run Konkamoya Lodge, which is situated on the banks of Lake Itezhi-Tezhi in the southern part of Kafue National Park. Here you will camp.

Location 8

Nanzhilla Plains Camp, Kafue National Park

Day 13

Drive down to Southern Kafue, to Nanzhilla Plains Camp where you will spend your final night in the bush.

Location 9

Waterberry Lodge, Livingstone

Day 14

You leave Kafue via the Ndumdumwenze gate and take the drive back to Livingstone for a relaxing last night on the Zambezi River.
