This comprehensive journey takes you through all the same areas as the Classic Botswana route but has a few added bonuses. It starts and finishes in Livingstone so you’ll get time on the mighty Zambezi and at Victoria Falls. It also takes in Nxai Pan, the vast and remote Central Kalahari, Moremi, Savuti and Chobe National Park. This journey is best between April and October and includes 7 nights in lodges and 11 nights in campsites.
Arrive in Livingstone where you will be met by a member of our team and taken to Waterberry Lodge. This is a beautiful spot on the banks of the Zambezi river.
Today you cross over into Botswana and head south towards the Makgadikadi and Nxai Pan. Here you use Nata Lodge to break the journey.
Today you head west into Central Botswana to Nxai Pan. This is a flat, grass-covered pan dotted with islands of clustered umbrella acacia that shares a common boundary with Makgadikgadi.
Today you drive across Nxai Pan to the impressive Baines Boabab Campsite. This campsite is set atop a rise, amongst seven huge Baobab trees, over looking the vast salt flats of Kudiakam Pan. The campsites are well spread out so you feel perfectly alone under the African night sky. A magical place.
This morning you drive out of Nxai Pan and start to head south and will come to the tented camp of Meno A Kwena. This camp is without doubt one of our favourite camps in Botswana.
This morning you enter the Central Kalahari. This is a stunning landscape and very different to the northern parks of Botswana, expect to se very different wildlife here too.
Today you venture further into the Central Kalahari. The campsites here are all dotted around a very picturesque pan with a clump of acacia trees in the middle. The sunset is well worth watching from the pan with the Springbok pronking in the foreground.
Today you continue west to Motopi Pan this is a less visited site but well worth a visit.
Today you leave the Central Kalahari and head north to Maun. Here you can re-stock and re-fuel. Royal Tree Lodge is a great lodge set in its own private reserve, here you can walk along the river among Kudu and Giraffe.
Today you start heading north to Moremi. This is a very different environment with far more water, wildlife and greenery. Xakanaxa Campsite is set in a quite corner of the pack with Bushbuck being a regular visitor.
Today you head to Sango Camp, this is a simple yet beautiful little tented camp on the Khwai River. The guides are excellent as is the atmosphere and food.
This morning you head north into the Savuti area of Chobe National Park. The channel here is now flowing after 30 years and this has attracted a huge amount of wildlife. The campsites are well spaced and over look the Savuti Channel.
Today you head up to the Chobe Waterfront, this is one of the most game rich areas of southern Africa. You spend the nights at Ihaha Campsite right on the river.
Today you cross the border into Zambia via the ferry at Kazangula and continue to the banks of the river Zambezi where you will stay another and last night at Waterberry Lodge.
