How do your trips work?

We supply every thing that is required for a complete and safe self-drive holiday in Africa. We will build you your itinerary, make all of your accommodation bookings, supply you with a fully kitted Safari Drive vehicle (kitted with an extensive amount of camping equipment) pre-book your National Park entry permits where necessary and importantly, supply you with 24 hour support - you will never out of reach as we supply you with a satellite phone with complimentary credit.

Are flights included?

Flights are not included in the prices listed on our website. If you would like us to give you a quote for flights we would be very happy to do so. We provide tour operator fares which are very competitive and in supplying the flights ourselves we can more easily coordinate connections, local flights and airport transfers.

Who owns your vehicles?

Safari Drive owns, operates and runs its own fully equipped Toyota Land Cruisers.

How old are the vehicles?

Most of our vehicles are under five years old. Importantly they are regularly serviced and expertly prepared for your holiday. Any vehicles that are over 5 years are only in the fleet if we believe they are up to our high standards.

What happens if we break down?

We will send you a replacement vehicle.

Are we reimbursed for breakdowns or accidents?

Unfortunately, we are unable to reimburse you for any days lost due to a breakdown.

What happens if we get lost?

We all get lost from time to time and discovering the correct route is part of the holiday. However to make things as simple as possible, we provide you with directions, maps, sat nav, and a satellite phones should you need to reach us. We always know where you are as the vehicles are tracked, so you just need to give us a call.

Are transfers included in the price?

Yes all airport transfers are included in your holiday.

Why are your prices higher than other car hires?


Our prices may seem higher than some car hire companies at first. However, we are very competitive with our pricing and would be surprised if you find a cheaper holiday with a like for like vehicle (and it's equipment), itinerary (noting room type and basis), support and extras.

Can I hire a vehicle with no extras?

No. We believe that for a safe self-drive holiday you need to be fully prepared.

How does the insurance work?

Their is a standard excess amount of £3,000 should you damage the vehicle. You will not pay more than this and have the option to reduce the excess amount by paying a daily fee. Our excess options are stated on the back of your itinerary.

Can I do a one way journey with Safari Drive

Yes we specialise in one way journeys, that means you do not have to back track. If this is booked far enough in advance we will not charge you for the relocation of the vehicle.

What are the dangers?

Every adventure holiday carries an inherent risk and you should be aware of the possible dangers on a self-drive holiday. Please read all of our information carefully and talk to our team in preparation.

Do we have to camp?

No we are happy to plan your itinerary around lodges and tented camps that suit your tastes and budget.

Our Bonding

ABTOT & ATOL

The Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust Limited (ABTOT) provides financial protection under ABTOT Combined and The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 for Safari Drive, ATOL number 3322, and in the event of their insolvency, protection is provided for the following:

  • non-flight package
  • flight inclusive packages that commence outside of the EU, which are sold to customers outside of the EU; and
  • flight inclusive packages, flight only and linked travel arrangements (LTAs) sold as a principal under ABTOT Combined

ABTOT Combined cover provides for a refund in the event you have not yet travelled or repatriation if you are abroad. Please note that bookings made by customers outside the EU are only protected by ABTOT when purchased directly with Safari Drive.

In the unlikely event that you require assistance whilst abroad due to our financial failure, please call our 24/7 helpline on 01702 811397 and advise you are a customer of an ABTOT protected travel company.

All the flights and flight inclusive holidays on this website are financially protected either by ABTOT Combined or the ATOL scheme.  When you pay for something protected by the ATOL scheme you will be supplied with an ATOL Certificate.  Please ask for it and check to ensure that everything you booked (flights, hotels and other services) is listed on it.
