On this safari you will follow the mountainous shadow of Malawi’s western lake shore as you head north from Lilongwe on the less travelled route to Viphya Mountains to Nyika Plateau via the beach and back again. This mountainous route is great for walkers, hikers and birders. The birdlife in Malawi and especially on this northern route is especially rich for Southern Africa. There is also the opportunity for some watersports on the lake before heading back south to Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve for four days (three nights) of game viewing on the Bua River.
On arrival into Lilongwe you will be met and transferred to Latitude 13, where you will spend the first night of your trip.
Today you set off for the Viphya Mountains to stay at Luwawa Campsite. This lodge offers everything from fishing to orienteering or even archery. There is the opportunity to kayak or sail in the reservoir or even try rock climbing or abseiling.
Today you continue north to camp on Nyika Plateau. This campsite overlooks a crystal-clear dam with panoramic views of rolling hills, isolated ridges and open high-altitude grasslands and the area enjoys rich pockets of wildlife endemic to this region.
This unique Castle is perfectly located for on the shores of Lake Malawi. There's so much to do here that you will need two nights minimum. They also have a spacious campsite available, right on the beach!
Camp on the lake shore tonight. There is a pottery here and you can choose to spend time potting under expert guidance at the training workshop. This is an interesting and peaceful place to stay on the lakeshore.
Today you head to Nkhotakota to stay on the banks of the Bua River. This area is still very undeveloped for tourism so gives a true feeling of exploration and discovery. Go now while it is still untamed.
Today you will return to Lilongwe. You will meet a Safari Drive representative for your debriefing before being transferred back to the airport in good time for your flight home.
