|
| Day 1 |
River Trees Lodge , Arusha |

|
| |
Upon arrival you will be transferred to River Trees which is within easy reach of the airport and in the daylight has attractive grounds and on a clear day good views of Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru which is no more than a few miles away. The lodge is low key but very comfortable. Inside there are old photos, trophy's and bits and pieces which illustrate Martina, the owner's long and fascinating involvement with this part of East Africa. You will stay here in a river cottage on a bed & breakfast basis. |
| |
|
| Day 2 - 3 |
Tarangire National Park, Special Campsite |
| |
In the morning, you will be collected and
driven to our base on the west of Arusha, where you will
be briefed on the vehicle, equipment, route and safety issues.
Our agent will advise you on the best places to shop in Arusha
and discuss your route with you before setting off to Tarangire
National Park. You drive to the special campsite in this
lovely, game rich region. Both the bird life and mammals
here are in abundance and you are sure to have game right
in the camp with you. Here you will be camping in a special
campsite.
The campsites in Tanzania have no facilities at all so
you must be totally self sufficient. The camps are very remote
and you will be there on your own with no other people around.
You must also be prepared to have game in the camp with you
as there are no fences to keep them out, just an area to
camp in. The loo is a shovel, loo roll and box of matches
and there is no water except what you take with you !
The park has diverse vegetation and the countryside changes
regularly. There is a Baobab forest in the north and rich
marsh land in the south/centre of the park where big herds
of elephant can be found. There are also plenty of predators
to keep you alert. |
| |
|
|
|
| Day 4 |
Ngorongoro Farm House |
|
|
| |
Today you you drive to the Ngorongoro Farm House which is situated 5kms from the gates of the National Park. Comfortable ensuite cottages are situated all over the lovely gardens, most have working fireplaces and bath tubs which is lovely for cold nights at altitude. Each of the cottages are styled on the old colonial farm and decorated with local materials. You stay here on a half board basis. Allow for a five hour drive. |
 |
| |
|
|
|
| Day 5 & 6 |
Serengeti National Park, Naabi Hill Special Campsite |
|
|
| |
Drive into the Crater before setting off to Olduvia and the Gorge; the museum there is very interesting though small and dusty, and the relics of ancient man and extinct animals are fascinating. You may also take a guide into the gorge but it can be hot and dusty and once there, there is not too much to see. Having checked in at the park gates and paid the entrance fee, you set up camp at the very good camping area with spectacular views over the Serengeti Plains. Here you will be camping in a pre booked and paid for special campsite. Allow about 2 hour for the drive from the Crater rim. |
 |
| |
|
| Day 7 |
Lake Ndutu, Serengeti National Park |
| |
Today you take the drive south to the north of Lake Ndutu. You again pay park fees before you depart Naabi Hill Gate as you will be camping on the Serengeti National Park side of the lake. You set up camp in a remote campsite amongst trees on the banks of the lake. There are no facilities of any kind so you must make sure you have plenty of water and fuel before you depart from Naabi Hill. The migration should be in full swing here so a few days in the area is a must. You can get water from Ndutu Lodge or the Park Rangers’ headquarters on the south side of the lake. Allow for a game drive through Serengeti. |
| |
|
| Day 8 & 9 |
Serengeti National Park, Seronera Special Campsite |
| |
Drive through Kliens Gate right
in the north of the park and through the most remote and
stunning country side where you will meet Maasai in their
totally traditional life style. The campsite is very simple
but friendly. Here you will be camping. Please
book and pay on arrival. (TS 10,000) |
 |
| |
|
| Day 10 |
Olduvai Camp & Gorge |
| |
Spend the day in The Ngorongoro Crater Conservation area before driving down the wall of the Crater. It is worth calling in at Olduvai Gorge; the new museum there is very interesting and though small, it houses interesting relics of ancient man and extinct animals. You may also take a guide into the Gorge but it can be hot and dusty and once there, there is not too much to see. Olduvai Camp is a permanent tented camp set on a hill overlooking the Olduvai region. The camp is in the heart of the migration at this time. Although it is fairly comfortable, it is not a luxury camp so the food is simple but acceptable and the service friendly but casual. You have an ensuite safari tent with chemical loo and bucket shower. From here you can go on walks with the local Maasai. You stay here on a full board basis but drinks are extra. Allow for a game drive through Serengeti. |
| |
|
|
|
| Day 11 & 12 |
Lake Manyara National Park, Special
Campsite. |
|
|
| |
You drive south to Lake Manyara. This small
game rich park is a very scenic region being set on the banks
of the beautiful Lake Manyara and under the imposing wall of
the Rift Valley. The park is noted for its beauty and diversity
of wildlife. There is lush forest which opens to grassland,
swamps and beyond the soda lake itself. It covers 390 sq km
and is a sanctuary to over 350 species of bird including flamingo,
pelican, storks and sacred ibis. You should see large flocks
of flamingos on the lake together with a very varied and dense
variety of game and plenty of elephants. Here you stay in a
pre booked and paid for campsite. |
 |
| |
|
| Day 13 |
River Trees Lodge, Arusha |
| |
Drive back to Arusha to drop the Land Rover at our base before we transfer you to a lodge where a night in a real bed will be welcome. Here you stay on a bed & breakfast basis. Allow for a 3 hours drive. |
