No matter how much you enjoy the delights of private camping, we appreciate that many people like to take a break from the roof tent and head off to a lovely African lodge for a night or two, or even for the bulk of your safari.
We can help you choose some really great places, from down-to-earth
farmsteads bursting with rustic charm to some of the most opulent
and elegant lodges in the world. There is always a very good reason
why we recommend specific lodges. We’ve been to them all and base our well-informed suggestions on vital first
hand experience.
We know many of the people who either own or run the lodges and camps and have built up great relationships with them. The most important reasons for us recommending any lodge are;
super, comfortable accommodationThe majority of the lodges have a large range of additional facilities, some of which are staggering when you consider the remoteness of their locations. Crystal clear swimming pools, beautiful gardens, tennis courts, well-stocked boutiques and gift shops and fabulously pampering spas with numerous wonderful treatments.
It’s a real delight to put up your feet at the end of a long day
and to relax on your own private balcony. There are fresh flowers
by your bed, newly laundered towels in your luxurious en suite bathroom
and you know that nothing is too much trouble for the friendly and
professional staff looking after you. There are also a number of
activities available from the various lodges, camel trekking, horse
riding, river rafting, bush walks and so on. Let us know if there
are any particular things you would like to do and we will suggest
some places we think you’ll really enjoy.
The words ‘tented camp’ can be slightly misleading as to what one
can expect from these incredibly impressive and sometimes very
decadent properties. In fact, they could probably be described
as lodges with canvas walls. The levels of comfort and service
are on a parallel with the best lodges and you can expect
excellent guiding, friendly and experienced managers and some spectacular
locations.
They are often built where fixed structures are not allowed and this is the case in most of the National Parks. Despite such features as swimming pools, private verandas, teak floors and fabulous en suite facilities, they somehow bring you closer to nature.
They tend to be located in more interesting and secluded pockets
of the great game viewing areas, many blending effortlessly into
their beautiful surroundings. Some overlook busy waterholes where
game flocks to drink, while others offer views across the hippo-filled pools of a verdant
river channel. Some are more luxurious than others but each of
the tented camps that we use is full of character and we love every
one of them.
We’re here to do all the groundwork for you, we don’t just leave it up to you to work out which lodges would suit you best. We carefully consider your interests and requirements and make our suggestions accordingly.
We are pleased to discuss your requirements with you so that we can provide you with brochures for individual lodges and tented camps.
We are very grateful to a number of our clients for providing us with the most fantastic trip diaries and photo galleries from their safaris.

The new brochure is an insight into the exploration of Africa and details our self drive safari programme. It also has detailed maps and routes in the countries we cover.
