Namibia is a great destination for anyone who has never self driven in Africa before. It is safe and has a good road system.
The road signs are generally reliable and the maps are pretty accurate. Camps and lodges are easy to find and fuel and food are easily obtainable (except in very remote regions).
Namibia is a fabulous country for families to go on safari.
It has a great climate with very pleasant, comfortable conditions for much of the year. However, it can get very chilly at night during June and July if you are camping though we have spent nights out in the desert during this time and with a warm jumper and a hot water bottle it’s great.
The lodges and camps are lovely and family-friendly with first class facilities.
The campsites in Etosha National Park are fenced, meaning extra security from game if you have children running around.
We still think it’s a good idea to do an off road driving course before departure as the dirt roads are fast and it is easy to lose control of the vehicle.
Please let us know if you are interested in having some instruction before you go and we will point you in the right direction.
The courses are normally either a half day or full day and are great fun in their own right.
If you do book a course, we are always happy to speak to them and advise them of the kinds of conditions you could experience on your safari.
