Weather conditions

When is a good time to go to Malawi?

Malawi’s weather is predominantly very pleasant except for the southern lowlands of the Shire Valley, where the extremely high temperatures and high humidity mean that the conditions can be uncomfortable.

You will find the opposite extreme in the highlands, which can be very chilly at night.

Lake Malawi has a gorgeous combination of hot sunshine and cool breeze, ideal for a great beach holiday.

Malawi’s wet season runs from November to early April and many people like to avoid the country during the rains. Yet, for the brave the birds and flowers at this time are absolutely excellent and it is an astonishingly beautiful time to see Malawi in all its glory.

The following chart is a quick reference to the predominant weather conditions during different months of the year. However, please remember that there are no hard and fast rules.
